About us

The work of Sláinte Pobal is concerned in particular with giving people in areas of disadvantage access to information on complementary approaches to health. This in turn helps individuals to take more control over their lives.

A student makes a presentation on a Slainte Pobal CourseThe emphasis is on well-being rather than sickness and ill-health.

All those involved in Sláinte Pobal have extensive experience of working with groups at local community level.

Aims

  1. To create a more positive approach to health.
  2. To promote awareness of a holistic approach to health through running courses and through publications.
  3. To develop participants' knowledge and skills. To enable them to have more control over their lives.
  4. To provide training that will enable participants to run health and stress management courses.

Rationale

It is generally recognised that stress is a contributary factor in many illnesses. In areas of low income and poor housing, people are particularly suceptible to stress-related diseases. In general there is a lack of information on how to cope and manage stress.

Sláinte Pobal seeks to enable individuals to develop skills to cope with stress related health problems and to gain more control over their lives.

With knowledge and skills, people are in a better position to make choices
